ABC Sorts!

An ABC Sort is a list of words that teachers can use when they are teaching students to alphabetize words. There are two basic styles of worksheet: students either number a list of words in alphabetical order, or they take words from a word bank and write them in alphabetical order. Worksheets may be created in each of these styles so that words are either split into groups of 3 to 5 words for sorting, or all of the words in the list are to be sorted. Here is a list of samples:

ABC Order (page 1) - 1st letter Five pages with six short words per page; to the first letter.
Testing Practice: Language Arts (Level 1) Formatted like a standardized test, this 9 page document tests knowledge of punctuation, capitalization, parts of speech, alphabetization, spelling, and more. These are approximately the skills tested in first grade, although state standards vary widely.

ABC Order: Summer Olympics Alphabetize the 33 summer sports.

Dictionary Skills: Guide Words (R) Look at the sets of guide words. Write the word from the word box on the line next to the guide word set that tells you which page the word will be on. This worksheet features words that start with the letter R.
Spelling: Kwanzaa (upper elementary) From "candelabra" to "unity", this spelling unit features spelling words related to Kwanzaa, reviewed in a word search, crossword puzzle, and ABC order page.
Spelling: Thanksgiving (upper elem) 20 words, from "blessing" to "tradition", are presented in this spelling unit, which features dictation, syllable work, abc order, and more.
